On September 21, just before the national Memorial Day for the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews, 39 rescuers of Jews were awarded with Life Saving Crosses at the Presidential Palace, most of them posthumously. The Vilna Gaon State Jewish Museum continuously researches the stories of the rescuers and those who were rescued and presents this information to the President’s office.
On the same day a monumental stone, dedicated to Lithuanian Righteous Among the Nations, was unveiled in Vilnius, near Maironio St. 27. In the future, it will be replaced by a permanent memorial.
