In commemoration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day - Museum began a new tradition.

Published: 2023-01-30

In commemoration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History began a new tradition. Starting from the Samuel Bak Museum, we walked to the former Small Vilna Ghetto together with our team and friends. Every year the event of commemoration will take place in a different spot within the former Vilna Ghetto. We hope that this new tradition will unify the city. We are grateful to everyone who joined us, especially to the ambassador of Israel to Lithuania, Hadas Wittenberg Silverstein, the Mayor of Vilnius, Remigius Šimašius, and the Member of Parliament, Paulė Kuzmickienė.

Additionally, we would like to extend our thanks to the embassies that supported us: US Embassy Vilnius, Embassy of Japan in Lithuania, Embassy of Germany in Vilnius, Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Vilnius.

We would like to sincerely thank Ugnė Gagaitė (violin, 6th grade, teacher Jelena Alymova, Vilnius Algirdas Music School), who performed the piece by Naomi Shemer ‘Sheleg al iri’ (Snow on My City); arranged by J. Alymova.
