Our mother understood the danger of staying together all too well and it was difficult for the people who were hiding us to provide food for five additional strangers. Moreover, in case of disaster all of us could have perished, therefore we decided to split up and keep hiding separately.
Izaokas Glikas

Jankel and Malke Glik’s daughter Mina, who was renamed Janutė, and their son Kopel, who was renamed Petras, were taken by Marijona and Justinas Dubininkas from Žalvėderiai village, Šakiai region. Head of the Glik family Jankel and his eldest son Leiba were killed on 4 July 1941 in Kudirkos Naumiestis. The Dubininkas hid Abeliūtė from Pilviškiai throughout the entire Nazi occupation period, too. The Dubininkas’ eldest daughter Ramutė was of invaluable help to her parents in hiding Jews. She would bring food to those in hiding and walk around the village to find out about any imminent police searches. The Gliks would often change their hideouts, but kept returning to the Dubininkas where they were welcome at any time.
