Vilniaus gatvėse gimė ir augo daugybė talentingų asmenybių. Vienas ryškiausių jų – pasaulinio garso smuikininkas Jaša Heifecas, laikomas vienu didžiausių XX a. muzikos virtuozų.

Jaša gimė Vilniuje, o vaikystę praleido Maironio g. 19 name. Smuiku groti pradėjo vos trejų metų – jį mokė tėvas. 1906 m., būdamas penkerių su puse, jis buvo priimtas į Vilniaus imperatoriškosios rusų muzikos draugijos mokyklą, kur dėl išskirtinių gabumų iš karto pateko į trečią klasę.

Jau po kelių mėnesių, 1906 m. gruodžio 7 d., Jaša surengė savo pirmąjį pasirodymą moksleivių koncerte. Būdamas aštuonerių, 1909 m., jis koncertavo Gedimino prospekte vykusiame muzikos mokyklos dėstytojų koncerte ir atliko F. Mendelsono koncertą smuikui. Renginyje surinktos lėšos buvo skirtos jo kelionei į Sankt Peterburgą, kur jis pradėjo studijas konservatorijoje.

Jašo talentą greitai pripažino garsiausi to meto muzikai – jį imta vadinti „muzikiniu vunderkindu“. 1917 m. šeima emigravo į Jungtines Amerikos Valstijas, o spalio 27 d. šešiolikmetis Heifecas debiutavo „Carnegie Hall“ Niujorke. Tai tapo jo tarptautinės karjeros pradžia – netrukus jis buvo pramintas pirmuoju pasaulio smuikininku.

Jaša Heifecas mirė 1987 m. Los Andžele, palikęs neišdildomą pėdsaką muzikos istorijoje.

The streets of Vilnius were the birthplace and formative ground for many talented individuals. One of the most prominent among them was the world-renowned violinist Jascha Heifetz, considered one of the greatest musical virtuosos of the 20th century.

Jascha was born in Vilnius and spent his childhood at 19 Maironio Street. He began playing the violin at the age of three, under the instruction of his father. In 1906, at just five and a half years old, he was admitted to the school of the Imperial Russian Music Society in Vilnius, where his exceptional talent earned him immediate placement in the third grade.

Only a few months later, on December 7, 1906, Jascha gave his first public performance at a student concert. At the age of eight, in 1909, he performed at a concert given by the school’s faculty on Gediminas Avenue, where he played Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. The funds raised at the event were used to support his journey to Saint Petersburg, where he began his studies at the conservatory.

Jascha’s extraordinary talent was soon recognized by the most celebrated musicians of the time, and he was hailed as a “musical wunderkind.” In 1917, his family emigrated to the United States. On October 27 of that year, the sixteen-year-old Heifetz made his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City. This performance marked the beginning of his international career, and he was soon acclaimed as the world’s premier violinist.

Jascha Heifetz passed away in 1987 in Los Angeles, leaving an indelible mark on the history of music.
