Sergey Kanovich Assumes Role as the Museum’s New Director

Today, Sergey Kanovich - an expert in Jewish cultural heritage, cultural project manager, and writer - assumed the position of Director of the Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History.

At the Samuel Bak Museum, he was introduced to the museum staff by Lithuania’s Minister of Culture Vaida Aleknavičienė and Chancellor of the Ministry Lukas Alsys.

At different stages of his career, S. Kanovich worked as an editor at the publishing houses Vyturys and Vaga, and is the founder of the public institution “Maceva”.

During the period when he lived and worked in Brussels, he was actively involved in implementing international projects related to Jewish heritage, he was also a founder and former CEO of the “Lost Shtetl” museum.

In 1985, he graduated from Vilnius University with a degree in Lithuanian language and literature.

In 2018, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitė, awarded Sergey Kanovich the Medal of the Order for Merits to Lithuania for the efforts in preserving and fostering Lithuania’s Jewish heritage.
