The everyday rituals of Litvaks, holidays and the home, language, learning, the city, and art all come together in this open overview tour at the Museum of Lithuanian Jewish Culture and Identity.
During the tour, the focus is on everyday Jewish life: life at home, the relationship with time, learning and community, the shtetl, and the larger city. Authentic exhibits and stories offer an insight into Judaism not only as a religion but also as a way of life that shaped people's relationships, choices, and daily habits. Ritual objects, holiday items, and details of the home environment help visitors understand how a sense of holiness emerged in everyday life.
Special attention is given to language and learning—the significance of Hebrew and Yiddish, as well as the community spaces and gatherings where Litvak identity was formed.
Secular Jewish culture is explored through art, theatre, music, and literature. The exhibits symbolize change: the traditional world gradually takes on new forms, and culture becomes a space for individual expression, interpretation, and creativity.
The tour concludes at the Rafael Chwoles Museum. Here, visitors are introduced to the artist's life and creative journey—from Vilnius to Warsaw and, finally, to the mature period of his work in Paris. His works created in Lithuania and depicting his native city reveal Vilnius as a place continually observed and experienced, remaining deeply significant to the artist throughout his life.
