On 7-9 June, the annual conference of the Association of European Jewish Museums (AEJM) took place at POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. The theme of this year’s conference was “Jewish Museums and People”.
The Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History was represented at the conference by Director Sergey Kanovich. We are pleased to share that during the conference, S. Kanovich was elected to the AEJM Board and appointed Treasurer of the organisation. More information about the organization and the board: https://www.aejm.org/about-us/
This is an important recognition and an opportunity to actively contribute to the work of the European Jewish museum community, strengthen professional ties, and present the history and cultural heritage of Lithuanian Jews in a broader international context.
During this year’s conference, museum professionals discussed the relationship between Jewish museums and their visitors, changing audiences, the impact of new technologies on our understanding of the past, the emotional challenges of museum work, funding opportunities, and the role of Jewish museums in the face of war, terror and growing hostility.
