In collaboration with the British Embassy in Vilnius, on April 28 we hosted a workshop at the Samuel Bak Museum for practitioners working in Lithuanian cultural and memory institutions.
Together with international experts, we explored how we speak about Jewish heritage and the Holocaust today, as well as what new methods and approaches we can pursue. Discussions focused on audience engagement, storytelling strategies, the role of education, the challenges of working with archives, and the position of museums in times of uncertainty.
Dr. James Bulgin and Clare Lawlor from the Imperial War Museum in London, Dr. Christine Schmidt from The Wiener Holocaust Library, and Dr. Christine Beresniova, who presented perspectives from Holocaust and Jewish museums in the United States, shared their expertise and experience with seminar participants.
The workshop brought together around 50 participants from all across Lithuania – from Vilnius and Kaunas to Žagarė and Kupiškis, as well as other cities. Participants actively engaged in discussions and thematic working groups designed for curators, educators, and library and archive professionals.
We sincerely thank the British Embassy in Vilnius for the collaboration and support in making this workshop possible. We hope that all participants gained valuable knowledge and insights that they will be able to apply in their work with Jewish heritage and its presentation to the wider public.
