Lori Lippitz founded the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band in 1983, and soon it became the pioneer of the revival of Klezmer music in the Midwest states of America. The band took the name of the old Jewish Sunday market in Chicago and perform merry music which enlivens the life of American Jews bringing to it enthusiasm and humour.
Maxwell Street Klezmer Band often participates in festivals in the USA and Europe, the London Barbican Centre and New York’s Carnegie Hall among them. The band has released five CDs and was awarded for Best Jewish Album. In 2008, together with singer/song writer Rabbi Joe Black they released “Eight Nights of Joy” of Hanukah music. The band takes inspiration from early twentieth-century immigrants’ music with the roots in Eastern Europe. |
